As part of its work to create safe, vibrant, and welcoming urban environments, Niam Real Estate has commissioned a new light artwork in Stockholm Harbour Blocks. The installation, titled Strömmar (“Currents”), is created by artist Jesper Wachtmeister and installed in the office building Grid17 on Hangövägen.

With this initiative, Niam aims to bring light to the area both literally and symbolically – adding life and presence to the surroundings even before companies move into the building. The light installation helps improve safety, wayfinding, and visual identity in the area, while also acting as an artistic meeting point that sets the tone for the emerging district.

The artwork consists of 50 LED strips, each five meters long, suspended from the ceiling in a one-third circular formation. Each strip is individually programmed to display light sequences that move between the floor and ceiling. The flowing light patterns represent the invisible streams that run through a building – electricity, data, air, water – and the human activity connecting them.

For those passing by Hangövägen, Strömmar appears as a living space of light – a poetic symbol of movement, connection, and community in a district under development.

“We want to create environments that feel alive and welcoming even after office hours. Strömmar is a first step in giving Grid17 an identity and a warm, human scale even before tenants move in,” says Rikard Henriksson, Head of Real Estate at Niam Group.

“I wanted to visualize the invisible flows of the building and the city – a kind of digital pulse that reflects both activity and life,” says Jesper Wachtmeister, the artist behind the work.

The installation Strömmar at Hangövägen 17 will light up the area as a new public artwork for everyone to enjoy.
